Fauré: Requiem - Poulenc: Figure Humaine - Debussy: 3 Chansons
Mathieu Romano, Ensemble Aedes, Les Siècles
AP201 - 1CD - 59' - Mar 1, 2019

A 100% French cast for a disc of 100% French music, and a triple rediscovery. Written for pleasure, Fauré's Requiem offers gentle poetry and moments of contemplation entrusted to both the choir and the two vocal soloists. Committed to restoring the work as faithfully as possible to its first performance, Ensemble Aedes and Les Siècles, under the baton of Mathieu Romano, present the Requiem in its original 1893 orchestration, on period instruments, with Latin pronounced in the French style as it was at the time of its creation. The exceptional articulation of the Aedes singers then perfectly matches the human figure. The text of these poems by Éluard, set to music by Poulenc, has never been heard so clearly! Debussy's Trois Chansons close the disc with elegance. Here again, the quality and clarity of the vocal material astound. Mathieu Romano, artistic director and founder of Aedes, is a magician of voices, at once powerful and intimate in the a cappella scores, and consoling in their marriage with the strings of Les Siècles. A must-see!
